A beginner's guide to C library interop in C#

Just got this question by somebody for a high school project: how to call a C library (either self-written or 3rd party) from the managed code world (e.g. C#)? I created a very very simple sample to show the basics of creating a C library, exporting the headers, investigating it through dumpbin.exe and calling the library from C#.
