September 2004 - Posts

Seems I got it (my estimation, see previous post) right :-). I've just checked the forums and now there are 500,031 users registered over there. See you there?Del.icio.us | Digg It | Technorati | Blinklist | Furl | reddit | DotNetKicks

The ASP.NET Forums are a really huge success. At the time of this writing, the number of (registered) users out there on the forums is 499,283. My personal guess: Saturday 9/11/2004 at 10:00 PM (GMT +1) we should have reached the number of 500,000 registered users on the forums. Hope my estimation is somewhat correct :-). The exact date however could have been a better one ("nine-eleven") in order to celebrate this :-(

To all contributors (all of the users, the 83 moderators, the top-25/50/100 posters) on the forums, keep up the good work. I'll continue to do my work over there as well, being moderator and top-25 poster.

Also keep your eye on the future of the forums software, which is now maintained by TelligentSystems (founded by Rob Howard, former member of the ASP.NET team). More information can be found on the Community Server Forums. As Rob explains over there, the target is to integrate different solutions much more in the future with shared user databases etc. Thanks to a add-on based approach (which I'm currently architecting for our SchoolServer - now called "Learning Network Manager" on the EMEA-level - solution as well, so I'm really excited about this approach) it will be possible to add functionalities later on (such as PassPort authentication). To quota Winston Churchill (and Bill Gates in a keynote at Comdex back in 2001, talking about the "digital decade"): "This is not the end. It is even not the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning."
