October 2003 - Posts

I'm currently working for Microsoft Belux on the SchoolServer project, a piece of software which runs on top of Windows Server 2003 to improve the manageability of the IT infrastructure in schools dramatically. Features include the automatic provisioning of the Active Directory (and the file/share structure) with accounts for students, teachers and staff members, blocking of internet access, end-of-the-year migration tools, automated setup of the client pc's (using RIS), Terminal Services for older clients running Windows 9x or NT 4, and much more. The setup and configuration of Windows Server 2003 will be dramatically simple thanks to wizards guiding you through the process.

Currently we're in a beta 2 stage, more news will become available when we're preparing beta 3 and the RC (and RTM) of the product. Our current goal is to ship the tools somewhere in Q2 of 2004.

Yippie! On October 1st I became a Microsoft MVP (Most Valuable Professional) for .NET for my commitment to the community and the forums on ASP.NET, where I am a Top-25 poster and moderator: www.asp.net/forums. You can find my name on the MVP website. I'd like to continue my community building on Microsoft's .NET technology the next weeks, month, years, ... and hope to see you somewhere on the forums or other .NET related places around the .NET (or live).

I recently bought a new Dell laptop (it's running damn fast, cool box, Centrino powered) and as an ASP.NET freak, I noticed the Belgian Dell website (http://www.dell.be) is running ASP.NET. Woohoo ;-) The number of sites powered by ASP.NET really starts to increase dramatically (in my opinion), proving the power of the .NET Framework. Netcraft showed me that Dell's European machines are running Windows Server 2003 with IIS 6.0: http://uptime.netcraft.com/up/graph/?host=www1.euro.dell.com.

Waiting for ASP.NET v2.0 "Whidbey" to come...
